Let’s prevent crime
Once the system I propose is accepted, no one would need or want to commit a crime. Everyone will have a guaranteed income, whether or not they work. The salary will cover the necessary living expenses. Therefore, economic survival can no longer be a reason to commit a crime.
But what about those people who want much more than basic economic needs? What if they want a higher status in society, along with glory and money? Naturally, they all will have a chance to get it legally through work. The new system lets everyone get any job they want. Each position will be awarded to the person who demonstrates the best productivity for the required public work post at any time. This is a vast difference from today, because people have almost no chance to choose their jobs. That is why they feel impotent and seek to alienate values that degrade them.
In the new system, people would be able to find jobs they like, including those that offer higher status in society, glory, and money. But one need not expect huge fights over better work posts because, in the new system, all work positions will be equally in demand. That will also ensure coverage of every work post and the highest productivity. This is well explained in my book Humanism.
But what if someone wants power over people, glory, and money without putting in any effort to get it, as criminals are used to? Firstly, I have to say that it will be almost impossible to accomplish in the new system. Second, the new system will show people where real value lies, encouraging them to seek less alienating values and avoid committing crimes. In this way, crime will be significantly reduced or even nonexistent.
What about those people who are in jails right now? They will be released from prison. Instead of prison sentences, they will receive penalties proportional to the negative values of their productive powers, based on the crime they have committed. In the screenplay Good Communism – Heaven, I’ve made these kinds of people wear red hats. Well, that might be the perfect punishment. Everyone will recognize such people wherever they are. They will be more ashamed than in prisons where they live with the same people as they do. Uncomfortable feelings will make them work hard to escape from negative productive power as quickly as possible.
They will be able to take off the red hats only by productive work and behaviour. Reducing the negative productive value they possess would be possible by performing at a high level of productivity at their workplaces. This would undoubtedly bring society far more benefits than keeping criminals in prison. Also, former prisoners would have to behave excellently in society. People will keep an eye on them. If former prisoners make mistakes, people would give them negative evaluations, which would prolong their time wearing a red hat. On the other hand, positive assessments from the public would help them escape the negative power they hold.
There would not be an easy way out for the former prisoners, and that would also prevent them from committing crimes. This prevention would probably be stronger than fear of jail because today’s criminals do not feel they have many opportunities in life. The new system will make them become good citizens.
Everyone in the new society will be a good citizen. Everyone will work hard to create the greatest possible advantages for everyone in the community and to diminish or eliminate all forms of disadvantage. People will no longer fear one another. Fear will not exist anymore. Do you understand what it means? This will make a right, sane, and harmonious society. Security and abundance will be everywhere. Crime will not have any reason to exist anymore. Well, those rare people who might continue doing bad things to society will be healed in institutions for mental health.
